The Minister of Assisting the Minister for Transport and Roads David Borger has been consulting with the heavy vehicle industry to pilot electronic work diaries for heavy vehicles. $ 9 million dollars has been allocated to a Road Safety package. The electronic work diary’s potential for accurate recording keeping in regards to speed and safety will help with compliance of fatigue and speed laws. This has already been proven effective in Europe and North America. The new package would help reform road safety and chain of responsibility, the aim being to make NSW roads safer. The electronic diaries would also assist in providing invaluable data on day to day activities and creating a network for truck rest stops.
