NSW highways being updated for fatigue management
New rest stops are being built on NSW major highways to combat fatigue for drivers.
The NSW state government has decided to provide new and updated rest stops on Newell, Mitchell, Barrier, Golden, and Great Western highways.
The Newell Highway Task Force and the trucking industry are planning a mid April meeting to start improving main freight routes. The key aims are to improve the safety of the motorists and ensuring there are rest stops every 100 kilometres.
Councillor Ken Keith, the chairman of the Newell Highway Task Force says, “Any measure that improves safety on the Newell is welcome and additional funding on rest areas is terrific. If we can get some additional funding on overtaking lanes in the short-term that would be even better.”
