NOTE:NSW RMS requires personnel attending the TC and/or the ITCP course(s) to be assessed on two (2) separate occasions for TC and three (3) separate occasions for ITCP, whereby all units of competency must be assessed on the job via live projects (in the context of traffic control at worksites). On at least one (1) occasion for each skill set, the assessment must be carried out by an RMS approved assessor.

Benefits of attending our practical day:
– Participants are assessed on three (3) separate occasions by an RMS approved trainer/assessor
– Participants are assessed in both the skill sets that comprise Traffic Controller (TC) and Implement
Traffic Control Plans (ITCP)
– Our RMS-approved assessor collects all evidence and completed workbooks on the day of assessment –

Training & Recognition

Changes to Traffic Control Training

Commencing July 1, 2015, the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will be introducing Nationally Recognised Competency Qualification framework for all traffic control training.

Nationally Recognised Training Framework

The aim of a Nationally Recognised Training Framework is to ensure those that undertake traffic control work achieve a standards of competency that are recognised throughout Australia and at the same time, provide a consistent approach of recognition of qualifications across all States. All training and assessment programs will now be linked to specific Nationally Recognised Units of Competency which can only be delivered by an RMS approved Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

The benefits of a adopting a nationally recognised framework includes:

  • Quality training and assessment from approved provider
  • Recognition across all states and territories
  • Flexible training and assessment options
  • Easier re-certification process
  • The training, assessment and certification will be delivered by an RMS approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO), as only they can deliver recognised National Competency Based training.

What you will need to do to retain your Traffic Control Certifications?

If you, or your workers currently have previous traffic control licences (dated before July 1, 2015), these will remain current until their expiry date. Beyond the expiry date, re-certification of qualifications will be required. If your qualification expires prior to 1 July, 2015, you can enrol in the current courses and update your photo card. It will then remain current for three years and will be recognised by Roads and Maritime Services. A variety of options will be offered for re-certification. This may include:

  • on-the-job assessments or recognition of current competency, and
  • depending on your skills, knowledge and experience, you may be required to complete a course or attend gap training.

These options will be offered when you lodge an application for re-certification.
