The WorkSafe ACT Approved 5-Day Initial HSR Training course provides elected Health and Safety Representatives with the knowledge and powers required to perform their role under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in the ACT.
5 Days (35 Hours Total)
Delivered across five full training days as required by WorkSafe ACT.
Live Webinar (Instructor-Led)
Interactive training delivered by approved facilitators in accordance with WorkSafe ACT requirements.
Certificate of Attendance
Issued upon successful completion of the 5-Day course.
Workers elected by their designated work group.
Responsible for facilitating training and covering course costs.
Elected deputies may also attend training.
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (ACT), workers have the right to elect a Health and Safety Representative.
Once elected, the PCBU must:
Allow the HSR to attend approved training
Cover the cost of training
Provide time off at normal pay to complete the course
HSRs must complete an approved initial training course to exercise their full powers, including:
Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN)
Directing unsafe work to cease

PCBUs must:
Allow HSRs to attend training within three months of request
Pay course fees
Provide paid time off for attendance
Deputy HSR training may be negotiated separately.
Participants must:
Be formally elected as an HSR or Deputy HSR
Be part of a designated work group
Have basic English literacy skills
Have access to internet and device for webinar delivery
