Confined space work is undertaken every day across Sydney’s construction, civil infrastructure, utilities, wastewater, telecommunications, manufacturing and government facilities sectors. Whether maintaining underground services, inspecting sewerage infrastructure, entering plant rooms or performing maintenance within tanks and vessels, workers can be exposed to serious hazards including oxygen-deficient atmospheres, toxic contaminants, flammable gases and restricted access during emergencies. These risks make confined space competency an essential requirement across many NSW workplaces.

The nationally recognised RIIWHS202E Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course provides the practical skills and knowledge required to safely enter, work in and exit confined spaces in accordance with workplace procedures and industry requirements. Participants learn how to identify hazards, assess risks, work under confined space entry permit systems, undertake atmospheric gas testing and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Understanding whether a work area is classified as a confined space and recognising the hazards that commonly lead to confined space incidents are essential foundations for safe work.

Delivered by AlertForce, the course leads to a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment upon successful completion. SafeWork NSW administers the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), with employers responsible for ensuring workers are trained and competent for the tasks they perform.
