Participants develop practical skills in controlling vehicle and pedestrian movements, implementing traffic management plans, operating stop/slow bats and portable traffic control devices, conducting risk assessments, communicating effectively with road users and work teams, and applying workplace health and safety requirements in temporary traffic management environments.

In NSW, workers seeking to undertake traffic control work on or adjacent to public roads are generally required to obtain a Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT) Card issued by SafeWork NSW.
Following completion of the required training, participants must complete any additional SafeWork NSW requirements and apply separately for their TCWT Card. Workers holding a valid Statement of Completion may be able to undertake supervised work while progressing through the final assessment and card application process.
NSW also participates in the Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR) scheme, allowing eligible interstate licence holders to work in NSW without a separate application, subject to applicable conditions and exclusions.
