Anyone carrying out construction work in the ACT must hold a valid General Construction Induction Card, commonly known as a White Card. The nationally recognised CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry course provides the training required to obtain this qualification and demonstrate an understanding of workplace health and safety requirements before entering a construction site.
AlertForce delivers White Card training Canberra workers rely on across government and defence construction projects, civil infrastructure, utilities and facilities management sectors. Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and can then apply through Access Canberra for their General Construction Induction Card. WorkSafe ACT regulates workplace health and safety requirements in the Territory, while Access Canberra is responsible for issuing the White Card.
The ACT does not accept self-paced online White Card training. Training must be completed through approved face-to-face or live webinar delivery. AlertForce also offers an ACT government-funded combo pathway that combines CPCCWHS1001 White Card training with 11084NAT Asbestos Awareness training in Canberra and 10830NAT Silica Awareness training in Canberra, subject to eligibility requirements.
Workers wanting to understand why face-to-face delivery remains important can also read our guides explaining why White Card training must be completed face-to-face and what White Card training covers and why some states reject online training for first-time applicants.

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.
The Statement of Attainment confirms successful completion of the training and may be used to support your application for a General Construction Induction Card. In the ACT, the White Card is issued by Access Canberra, not by AlertForce or WorkSafe ACT. After completing the course, participants must apply through Access Canberra to obtain their physical General Construction Induction Card.
Approval may take up to one month, with the physical card generally arriving within two weeks of approval. The White Card is nationally recognised and accepted throughout Australia, allowing workers to undertake construction work across state and territory borders.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, call us on 1800 900 222.
Is White Card training mandatory in the ACT?
Yes. In the ACT, White Card (CPCWHS1001) Construction Induction training is mandatory for anyone carrying out construction work or entering a construction site. You must complete this training before starting work on site.
How long is the course and what format is it?
White Card training in the ACT is a full-day, face-to-face course delivered in a classroom environment. Online White Card training is not recognised in the ACT.
When will I receive my certificate?
You’ll receive your digital White Card Statement of Attainment on the same day once you successfully complete the course and assessment. Your physical card may be issued separately depending on employer or site requirements.
Do I need any prior qualifications or experience?
No prior qualifications or construction experience are required. The White Card course is suitable for first-time workers, apprentices, tradespeople, supervisors, and site visitors, and covers fundamental workplace health and safety knowledge.
What if I fail the assessment?
If you don’t pass the assessment on your first attempt, you’ll be given the opportunity to review the learning material and resit the assessment. Retakes are included if required, as understanding the content is essential for workplace safety and compliance.
Can I book training for my whole team?
Yes. Group and corporate bookings are available. Training can be delivered for larger teams, with options for scheduled group sessions or tailored delivery to suit business requirements. This helps ensure all workers meet ACT legal requirements.
What is the ACT Training Fund and am I eligible?
The ACT Building and Construction Industry Training Fund provides subsidies for eligible workers and employers undertaking approved training in the construction sector.
You may be eligible if:
You work for an ACT-based construction company, and
Your employer pays the mandatory Training Fund Levy
If eligible, part of your course fee may be reimbursed. Applications are typically made after course completion.
How long is the certification valid?
Once issued, the White Card does not expire. However, many employers and PCBUs require workers to refresh their White Card if they have not worked in the construction industry for two years or more.
I need to start work on an ACT construction site urgently. Can I use my Statement of Attainment while waiting for my Access Canberra card to arrive?
Employers and principal contractors may accept a valid Statement of Attainment as evidence that you have successfully completed the required training while your White Card application is being processed. However, site requirements can vary, so workers should confirm specific entry requirements with their employer or site manager.
Can I complete the White Card course via live webinar from Canberra, or does the ACT require face-to-face training?
Yes. The ACT accepts approved live webinar delivery as well as traditional face-to-face training. However, self-paced online White Card courses are not accepted. AlertForce offers both compliant face-to-face and live webinar training options that meet ACT requirements.
My White Card was issued in another state. Is it recognised on ACT construction sites without me needing to reapply through Access Canberra?
Yes. White Cards issued in other Australian states and territories are generally recognised throughout Australia. In most cases, workers do not need to complete the course again or apply for a new ACT-issued card simply because they are working on an ACT construction site.
