This course is mandatory for individuals applying for an Owner Builder licence in the ACT. It must be completed before submitting your application and within five years of applying for your permit.

To work on a construction site as an owner builder, you may also need additional safety training such as a White Card (CPCWHS1001), along with Asbestos Awareness and Silica Awareness training to ensure you meet workplace safety requirements.

Is the Owner Builder Course mandatory in the ACT?

Yes. Completing an approved Owner Builder Course is mandatory before applying for an ACT Owner Builder Licence. The training ensures you understand your legal responsibilities, safety obligations, and the requirements involved in managing a residential building project.

How long is the course and what format is it?

The Owner Builder Course is delivered fully online, allowing you to complete the training at your own pace. Most learners complete the course in a few hours depending on their experience and familiarity with construction and building regulations.

When will I receive my certificate?

Once you successfully complete the course and assessment, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can then be used as part of your Owner Builder Licence application in the ACT.

Do I need any prior qualifications or experience?

No prior qualifications or construction experience are required. The course is designed for property owners who want to manage their own residential building or renovation project and need to understand their legal and safety responsibilities.

What if I fail the assessment?

If you do not pass the assessment on your first attempt, you will be given the opportunity to review the learning material and resit the assessment. Most providers offer at least one complimentary resit, as understanding the content is essential for workplace safety and compliance.

How long is the certification valid?

The Owner Builder Course certificate does not expire, however it must be completed within five years before applying for an ACT Owner Builder Permit.

Once you receive your Owner Builder Permit, it applies only to the specific building project and property listed in the permit. The permit remains valid for the duration of that construction project but cannot be reused for future builds.

If you want to act as an owner builder on another project in the future, you will need to apply for a new permit.

Near facilities, great free parking throughout, cafes and food as well as petrol station and other facilities within walking distance for during you're brake times, facility itself offers its own clean toilets and coffee, instructors are easy to deal with and are very helpful.

Had my white card training today and it was an excellent experience all round. Being the only female in the group I was nervous at first, but everyone was so friendly (I don't think I touched a door once today lol) and welcoming. The instructor (shout out to Craig) was really interesting and friendly and made the course really engaging, time flew by! I 100% recommend these guys and will be going back soon to complete my working at heights certification.

An excellent forklift training experience!

I have just completed my forklift training course at shool and I am truly satisfied. The instructors are very professional and patient, guiding me step by step through both theory and practice. Even though I had no prior experience, their clear explanations and friendly learning environment helped me pick up the skills quickly.

The facilities here are great — the forklifts are new, safe, and fully equipped. I felt very secure during practice. The trainers always kept a close eye to ensure safety and corrected even small mistakes right away.

After the course, I feel much more confident operating a forklift and I also received a proper certification. I highly appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and reliability of this center.

The course content—both theoretical and practical—was excellent, and I gained valuable knowledge about regulations and best practices. Matt was terrific. A sense of fun, yet absolutely serious when it came to asbestos and silica

I've been in the industry a long time, Knowing this, Matt graciously included me in some of the content. That takes a great deal of uncommon humility in our industry.

I learnt a lot, refreshed knowledge that needed to be refreshed.

I strongly recommend this course to old construction dogs as well as those new to the industry. You will not be disappointed.

Also, these two quals are going to become compulsory in most states and territories in the next 5 years

Alana is a lovely and supportive teacher who teaches in a very clear, friendly, and comfortable way. She creates a positive learning environment where we feel comfortable asking questions and participating in class. I really appreciate her patience, kindness, and teaching style.
One suggestion for improvement would be to replace the current chairs with more comfortable desks and chairs, as this would make the classroom environment even better, especially during longer classes.
Overall, I am very happy with Alana's teaching and really enjoy learning in her class.

Oly was our teacher and he was so understanding, helpful, kindhearted and funny.
He went at a good pace and didn't mind repeating things or explaining things differently if you didn't understand.
He constantly checked in on each person to make sure you were doing ok, didn't need him to slow down or assist you.
Not to mention his bad jokes and sense of humour. It made the day that much better and turned the learning environment into such a relaxed, chilled & calm atmosphere.

The coarse was very informative. Going into the course I didn't think I'd learn anything new but I was astonished with how much I learnt. Very well presented too. Rodney really knew his stuff and engaged with the participants well.
