Brisbane’s mix of post-war housing, ageing commercial buildings and ongoing infrastructure development means asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) remain a common workplace hazard across South East Queensland. From residential renovations and maintenance projects to commercial refurbishments and construction work, workers may encounter asbestos-containing materials in a wide range of workplaces.
The nationally recognised 11084NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness helps Brisbane workers identify asbestos-containing materials, understand associated health risks and apply safe work practices when asbestos may be present. Delivered by AlertForce, this course aligns with WorkSafe Queensland guidance and supports employers in meeting their obligations under Queensland work health and safety legislation.

Is asbestos awareness training a legal requirement for construction workers in Queensland?
Queensland employers must ensure workers receive appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision where workplace hazards exist. Asbestos awareness training is commonly used where workers may encounter asbestos-containing materials during their duties.
Does the 11084NAT meet employer training obligations for workers who may encounter asbestos?
The course provides nationally recognised asbestos awareness training and supports employers in providing workers with practical knowledge about asbestos hazards, exposure risks and safe work practices where asbestos-containing materials may be present.
How common is asbestos in Brisbane homes and what types of buildings are most at risk?
Asbestos remains common in homes, commercial buildings and industrial facilities constructed before the late 1980s. It may be found in roofing products, wall sheeting, fencing, insulation materials, flooring products and a variety of other building materials.
Can I complete the asbestos awareness course online if I'm based in Brisbane?
Yes. AlertForce offers live webinar delivery, allowing workers throughout Brisbane and Queensland to complete their asbestos awareness training remotely while still receiving nationally recognised certification.
What is the difference between the 11084NAT asbestos awareness course and a Class B asbestos removal licence?
The 11084NAT course provides awareness-level training focused on identifying asbestos hazards and understanding safe work practices. A Class B asbestos removal licence is required for the removal of non-friable asbestos and involves separate training, competency and licensing requirements.
