NSW Requirement

Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), workers have the right to elect a Health and Safety Representative.

Once elected, the PCBU must:

  • Allow the HSR to attend approved training

  • Cover the cost of training

  • Provide time off at normal pay to complete the course

HSRs must complete an approved initial training course to exercise their full powers, including:

Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN)

Directing unsafe work to cease
